Save the date - to the beach we shall go! Join me in Mendocino and Fort Bragg this summer for a 1 or 2 (and a half) day watercolor and sketch workshop.
During this workshop you will learn how to choose what to paint and how to present it. How to take reference photos and to create reference sketches. You will develop plein air painting skills and refine and build detail in your work.
This area offers an opportunity to paint ocean, rocks, bustling wharf life and vast botanical subjects.
How it works - Choose how many days you will attend. You will need to book your accommodation. Check your materials and please bring whatever you have by way of paint and brushes if you already have some. A watercolor journal is the easiest to use when painting outside. Please contact Christine with any questions or concerns with this.
We will convene both Friday and Saturday at the Mendocino Library in Fort Bragg. This way we can do class work without concern for the weather or seating. Then, we will head off to the chosen location. Both Noyo Harbor and Botanical Gardens have areas to sit, eat and bathrooms. You are welcome to stay as long as you like on location.
On Sunday we will have a wrap up lesson and critique on Mendocino waterfront. Please bring sun hats and sunscreen and a folding chair in case of crowds. It is early enough that we may avoid that problem, but good to be prepared. You are free to stay as long as you like. I will touch in with each of you and demonstrate techniques relevant to our chosen scene to finish off our workshop.
Saturday night potluck/paella party is graciously hosted by Melanie Fonseca.
Please RSVP and plan on adding to the fun with a beverage and nibble/ salad/ dessert or side.

It’s my birthday and I have organized a tour of the magnificent Villa and grounds of Ca’toga in beautiful Calistoga. The tours are by appointment only and offer a look at decades of master mural work and trompe 'l’oeil (fool the eye) artistry. Walls, ceilings, garden and even the floors! This is a day trip (unless you plan to make a weekend of it and visit the wineries and spas). Car pooling is a great option! If you are hungry afterward I will have tables booked (TBA) for a lovely lunch. Registration recommended as our number is limited.
Bring in a photocopy (on regular photocopy paper - not photo paper), enlarged to the size you’d like on your 11×14” or 12× 16” canvas and Christine will help you paint your pet. A great gift for a loved one or of your very own furry friend. (Yes, even a fish) . Class is $40 materials and instruction provided. Feel free to bring refreshments for a fun evening with paint friends at the studio.

CREATING ARTISTS ONE PAINTING AT A TIME
Classes
When I teach, my goal is to break the work down in such a way as to make putting it back together fun and rewarding. If it's a challenge, we will meet it together. It's one of the few things in life where we leave both satisfied and wanting more.
Let's paint together soon!
" Learning to paint is learning to see in a new way.
The more you do it, the more of the magic you see."

About Christine
I remember my first experience with painting with oils back in the early 1970s. It was autumn and warm and, like most everything we did back then, I painted outside. I remember the smell of the paint and the frustration of not being able to make it do what I wanted it to! Painting felt so familiar to me, even then…read more
